Supertramp continues their anniversary celebrations with another half speed remaster reissue, and this time it’s their sixth album, 1979’s Breakfast In America. The record picked up plenty of awards, spawned three hit singles and is the band’s best selling album. Here we get to experience it with superior sound.my_heart_sings_the_harmony_web_ad_alt_250

“Gone Hollywood” stars with Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson’s unmistakable voices in both busy and soft sounds that use John Helliwell’s rich sax strategically. “Goodbye Stranger” arrives soon with Davies handling clavinet alongside Bob Siebenberg’s adaptable drumming, and “Oh Darling” finishes the first side and buzzes with a playfulness and very meticulous keys.

“Take The Long Way Home” opens the second side, and we all know this one. It’s a Supertramp staple, and places Hodgson on lead vocals that we’ve all sung along to at some point in our lives. “Lord Is Mine” then focuses on piano and mood, where intimacy enters the gentle melodies and lush atmosphere.

Further into the backside, Davies takes the lead with the gritty yet harmonic “Just Another Nervous Wreck,” which allows for some intricate guitar solos, while “Casual Conversation” blends the wind and synth amid a calm climate. “Child Of Vision” exits, and makes great use of Dougie Thomson’s bass skills that helps showcase Supertramp’s inimitable brand of art, soft and progressive rock.

Supertramp were already globally enjoyed when this album arrived, but it propelled the outfit into further fame and has continued to sell well and make plenty of lists as far as being one of the most influential rock albums of all time.

This version puts the classic on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl and was half speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios. If you’re only going to pick up one Supertramp album, I’d make it this one.
